Liebfraumilch

The wine is named after the Liebfrauenkirche in Worms, which owned the vineyards from whose grapes it was made. 'Liebfrau' is the German equivalent of the English term 'Our Lady', used to refer to the Virgin Mary; thus the Liebfrauenkirche is the Church of Our Lady – despite the word 'Frau' being the equivalent of the English 'woman', while the equivalent of 'lady' is 'Dame' (pronounced DAH–muh).
